Context

In the world we are living in today, more than 60 million people are displaced. This is the highest number recorded since WWII. The average displaced spends 17 years away from home. It is estimated that more than six million Syrians are internally displaced and another five million are displaced outside of Syria. 

An estimated one million Syrians are living in Lebanon in informal camps or in various cities with friends and relatives.  Another three million Syrian refugees are living in Turkey and nearly 700’000 in Jordan. The images were taken in various refugee camps right next to the Syrian border in 2016. Each encounter unveiled another story of a lost home, of uncertainty and despair. And each look and (hidden) smile revealed a sense of hope…
